# Patents with small molecules filter

The filter aims to return only the patents that are more likely to contain small molecule compounds. It is derived from the work of [Falaguera and Mestres](https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.jcim.1c00151) (2021).

More precisely, it makes use of the CPC/IPC codes that are used to hierarchically classify the patents.

Patents are returned only if their CPC or IPC classifications contain **ANY OF**: 

\-              A61K0031 (Medicinal preparations containing organic active ingredients)

\-              A61K0033 (Medicinal preparations containing inorganic active ingredients)

\-              A61K0045 (Medicinal preparations containing active ingredients not provided for in groups A61K 31/00-A61K 41/00)

\-              A61P (specific therapeutic activity of chemical compounds or medicinal preparations)

But **NOT** any of the following:

\-              A23 (Foods or foodstuffs; their treatment, not covered by other classes)

\-              A24 (Tobacco; cigars; cigarettes; simulated smoking devices; smokers' requisites)

\-              A61F (Filters implantable into blood vessels; prostheses; devices providing patency to, or preventing collapsing of, tubular structures of the body, e.g. stents; orthopaedic, nursing or contraceptive devices; fomentation; treatment or protection of eyes or ears; bandages, dressings or absorbent pads; first-aid kits)

\-              A61G (Transport, personal conveyances, or accommodation specially adapted for patients or disabled persons; operating tables or chairs; chairs for dentistry; funeral devices)
